Mr. Clay Murphy
Superintendent of Schools
Message from our Superintendent on COVID 19
I wanted to reach out to everyone today to let you know that we are still working on a plan to reopen our schools this fall. I know it is frustrating to wait for answers, but I promise you, I have been working every day to get things figured out and to put a plan in place. The major issue is that things seem to change each and every day. Yesterday, our Governor put into effect an executive order which will certainly change our plan. We now will have to wait on the state board of education to see if they will vote to go along with the executive order or vote against it. Therefore, we will again have to wait and see what the guidelines are before we can put our own plan in place.
No matter which side of politics you are on, the fact is that we have to abide by the rules and regulations set by the state and our county. Therefore, any mandates will certainly have to be followed. I know this process has been frustrating for our kids, our parents and our teachers. I can assure you that the administration and board of education are also frustrated. We simply want to get a plan put together . We are trying to find a plan that balances the safety of our community and at the same time, gets our kids back into school so that they can continue their education. After having already missed a nine weeks last spring, I certainly don't want them to miss any more education time.
I have multiple meetings with the state, county and other school officials this week. After the dust has settled from the latest round of changes, I will send you another message to let you know what our vision is heading into August. I will also give you an update on our enrollment process. Thank you for your patience - I know mine is also wearing thin. We are simply dealing with issues that none of us can control and we must work together to do the best that we can for our kids. Here is hoping that we get back to normal at some time this year.
